Project Manager, BioCon Valley®
Jan Schmidt is Project Manager and Head of Department „International Certification of Healing Forests“ in the International Society for Forest Therapy which is operated by BioCon Valley® GmbH.
BioCon Valley® is the network of the health economy and life science in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Its work is supported by the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern which is a pioneer in the field of therapeutic use of forests. The corresponding activities go back to the renewal of the state forest law in 2011 which makes it possible to legally designate healing forests based on medical evidence in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Jan is responsible for applying the standards and procedures that are relevant for the evaluation and certification of Healing Forests in Europe and worldwide. Further he is promoting the idea of Healing Forests beyond the borders of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Germany.
Starting from a position in the PR sector and science communication, Jan has worked for more than ten years of in the field of EU funding and EU project management, namely in the position of a Project Officer at the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme´s Joint Secretariat. Here, his focus was on renewable energies and energy efficiency. Further he has gathered numerous experiences with other national and EU funding programmes such as Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
